Biochar is what’s left after trees are caught in an inferno, what remains of kindling when a bonfire is snuffed. Rich in carbon, biochar stores the nutrients and water that replenish the flora scorched during its production and nurture new forests, crops, and gardens. Biochar is the growth, the potential, the hope that forms after destruction.
Just like our namesake, the Biochar Magazine seeks to foster growth from destruction. We want to see this growth in your form and structure—as erasure, use of negative space, anything else you can think of. We want to see it in your subjects and your approaches: in the destruction around you and within you, what opportunities for growth can you observe? What can you create from it? We value unique approaches to universal topics. We want you to uncover the unseen and understated.
